Today, Microsoft is releasing the first Apha ring preview build of version 1711 for the Xbox One, which is to be the next monthly feature update for the console. It includes game gifting and more.
Microsoft released a new Xbox One build for Insiders on the Preview Alpha ring today, but this one is a bit different from the bug fixes that we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks. This is version 1711, which means that it’s a new feature update, and the build number is 16299.4016.
It’s only been 11 days since the company released the Fall Update for the console, but it seems to be doing something similar to what it did after releasing the Creators Update, which is to do monthly feature updates. Of course, these monthly updates aren’t as major as the semi-annual ones.
Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra had said earlier that game gifting would be coming to Insiders today, and that is indeed the case; however, that’s not actually tied to this build. If you don’t install this, you’ll get the feature anyway. Here’s the full changelog for version 1711, although some features will roll out over the next few weeks:
To access digital gifting, you’ll need to go into the Xbox Insider Hub and join under Insider Content, and then you can just choose “Buy as Gift” from a Store listing. There are currently some restrictions though:

Based on the version number of 1711, it’s safe to assume that Microsoft plans to have this finalized during the month of November. If you’re not on the Alpha ring and you’re on a lower one, you won’t have to wait long to get this.
