Apple has released iOS 11.0.2, with a fix for the iPhone 8 crackling earpiece issue. The update also tackles the issue of attachments in S/MIME encrypted emails not opening, among other fixes.
Apple has released iOS 11.0.2 today, less than a week after the release of iOS 11.0.1. The update does not include many changes, but it does fix a key issue that has plagued iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus users for more than a week; a crackling noise coming from the earpiece during phone calls and FaceTime calls.
The bug was initially discovered by users of the aforementioned phones a few days after the launch of iOS 11, and Apple later confirmed that it was working on a fix which would be released in an update soon. On affected iPhones, the earpiece worked normally most of the time, but during phone and FaceTime calls, a crackling or static noise could be observed intermittently.
The official description of the fixes and improvement covered by this update reads as follows:
The release of any future iOS update will be quite interesting, as the abysmal decay rate of battery life for devices with iOS 11, in comparison to iOS 10, has caused Apple users major problems. The company will be looking to redeem itself in the eyes of its users with a significant update that aims to fix these issues as soon as possible.
