Apple iPhone 7 was the top-selling smartphone in Q3 2017: Canalys

Canalys has released its latest smartphone market report for Q3 2017, and claims that the iPhone 7 was the best selling during the period.
“The report suggests that the iPhone 8 Plus out-shipped the iPhone 8 in Q3 2017”
In the third quarter of this year, the Apple iPhone 7 was the top-selling smartphone in the world, reports market research firm Canalys. The report reveals that even after the latest iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus hit the market, consumers still prefer the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 that was launched in mid-September didn’t even make it to the top five smartphones shipped. The report also mentions that worldwide smartphone shipments reached 375.9 million in Q3 2017, up 5.9 percent year on year.
According to the report, the Apple iPhone 7 took the first place on the top five chart, the iPhone 6s came second, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime third, the OPPO A57 fourth, and the OPPO R11 fifth. Apple shipped 13.0 million units of the iPhone 7 and 7.9 million units of the iPhone 6s in Q3 2017. Samsung shipped 7.8 million units of the Galaxy J2 Prime. As for OPPO, the company shipped 7.8 million OPPO A57 and 7.2 million OPPO R11 smartphones.
The report suggests that Samsung shipped the highest 82.8 million smartphone units in Q3 this year, which is 8.2 percent higher than in Q3 2016. It appears that Galaxy Note7 fiasco didn’t affect the Galaxy Note line up as the brand shipped a solid 4.4 million units of the Galaxy Note8. The Galaxy J series smartphones also saw a growth in markets like India and the Middle-East.
As for Apple, the brand took second place on the chart by shipping 46.7 million units. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for 11.8 million of these units. The brand shipped 5.4 million units of iPhone 8 and 6.3 million units of the larger iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 Plus became the first iPhone Plus model to out-ship its smaller sibling in a single quarter.
Talking about the other manufacturers, Huawei was at the third spot, shipping 39.1 million smartphone units. OPPO took the fourth spot by shipping 30 million smartphones. Lastly, the fifth spot was captured by Xiaomi, which shipped 28 million devices.
