Demi Lovato made a statement on Sunday night when she arrived at the 2017 American Music Awards with Danica Roem by her side.
The unapologetic “Sorry Not Sorry” hitmaker brought the first openly transgender state lawmaker ever to be elected in the state of Virginia as her date after hearing about her story earlier this month when she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.
Lovato has long been an advocate for the LGBTQ community in addition to being outspoken about her own struggles with substance abuse, bipolar disorder and eating disorders.
Roem unseated Bob Marshall earlier in November. He had been elected 13 times in 26 years before his stunning defeat.
Both women looked stunning on Sunday night. Lovato opted for a sheer, strapless black gown with a nude underlay, while Roam went for a more conservative look. Her black gown with sheer shoulders was gorgeous on the newly-elected delegate.
