The OnePlus 5T is here. After weeks of speculations, and leaks that revealed the phone much in advance, the OnePlus 5T has been launched in India. As expected this phone, which succeeds the OnePlus 5, comes with a starting price of Rs 32,999. This is the same price at which the OnePlus 5 was selling, hinting that fresh stock of OnePlus 5 will no longer come to the market.
The OnePlus 5T in its 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant will sell at a price of Rs 37,999.
In India, the OnePlus 5T will go on sale from November 21 on Amazon India website. The first sale at 4.30PM that day will be reserved for the Prime subscribers of Amazon India. The early access to the phone will also be available at OnePlus online store and the OnePlus experience centre in Bangalore. The open sale, says OnePlus, will start from November 28.
OnePlus and Amazon have lined up some introductory offers for the OnePlus 5T. They will allow some select consumers to buy the phone at a discount. Here are three big OnePlus 5T offers that some users may find useful.
— HDFC Bank card users will get an instant discount of Rs 1,500 on Amazon India when they purchase the OnePlus 5T. This offer will be available until December 2.
— People who attended the OnePlus 5T event screening on November 16 will get a chance to book the OnePlus 5T by making an advance payment of Rs 1000 and get the phone on November 21 even if they are not an Amazon Prime subscriber.
— Idea users will get 1008GB data with the OnePlus 5T with validity for a year.
Essentially, the OnePlus 5T is the OnePlus 5 will a bigger and better screen. It has the same design, that uses a metal body with expertly curved corners. But the screen that the Oneplus 5T houses measures 6.01-inch. It also comes with a slightly higher resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, which effectively gives it 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen also has thinner bezels.
“In addition to enhancing the visual appearance of the device, the larger display helps to improve the overall user experience. Users can calibrate their screens based on their viewing preferences across four different modes, including default, sRGB, DCI-P3 and adaptive,” said OnePlus in a product note for its new phone.
The OnePlus 5T comes with a fingerprint sensor mounted on rear cover, something that only keeps the phone small despite its bigger screen but also makes it look better. It is also seemingly very fast with OnePlus claiming that it unlocks the phone in 0.2 seconds. In addition, OnePlus has also added a feature like the Face ID – something that we have seen in the iPhone X – that makes it possible for users to unlock the phone by looking at it. However, unlike the iPhone X that has a depth sensing module, OnePlus relies on front camera that identifies over 100 points in a user’s face for this feature. “One of the fastest on the Android market, Face Unlock uses over 100 identifiers to unlock the OnePlus 5T,” says the company.
The OnePlus 5T also comes with revamped cameras. The front camera has a 16-megapixel sensor, which is similar to the one used in the OnePlus 5. But it is in the rear camera, where the company has changed a few bits. “The OnePlus 5T features the same main camera as that of the OnePlus 5, but boasts an improved secondary camera equipped with a large f/1.7 aperture for superior low light photography. With Intelligent Pixel Technology – first implemented on the OnePlus 3T’s front camera – the OnePlus 5T’s secondary camera merges four pixels into one, reducing noise in low-light environments and enhancing clarity,” says OnePlus.
For the rear camera in its new phone, OnePlus has also changed the lenses. Unlike the small zoom lens in the OnePlus 5, the second lens in the OnePlus 5 is now a regular lens with bigger aperture and wide-angle (around 27mm) focal length.
The rest of the hardware is similar to what you get in the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 5T is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and has up to 8GB RAM. It also uses the same Oxygen OS that is inside the OnePlus 5, which means it is still using the Android 7.1 A OnePlus official told India Today Tech that this is because the company wants to push out the Oreo updates to users of both the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T at the same time. The Oreo update for both these phones is expected in the coming weeks.
OnePlus said that the OnePlus 5T is a phone made keeping in mind the feedback that was received from OnePlus 5 users. “The feedback on the OnePlus 5 has been very positive, but there were some areas where we saw room for improvement to create an even better user experience,” said OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau. “We love nothing more than offering our community the latest and greatest technology and a user experience to beat expectations. Once again, we’ve worked hard to refine every last detail.
