The Samsung Galaxy S8 is an excellent flagship smartphone, and now that we’re nearing the end of the year, rumours surrounding the Galaxy S9 are heating up. Well, the S9 will reportedly be an incremental update over the S8, and it may be previewed as early as January next year at CES 2018.
This bit of information comes from Evan Blass of VentureBeat, who quoted a source familiar with the development of the Galaxy S9 series. According to the source, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will look almost identical to their predecessors. However, Samsung will address several shortcomings of the S8 with the upcoming phones.
For one, the rear fingerprint sensor is said to be moved below the camera lens instead of beside it; this will apply to both the Galaxy S9 and S9+. Now only is this a much more ergonomic placement, it also addresses one of the major design issues with the Galaxy S8 phones.
Aside from that, it appears Samsung is planning to differentiate the feature sets of the Galaxy S9 phones further. Not only will the S9+ come with a similar dual-camera system as the Galaxy Note 8 – the S9 will stick with a single rear camera – it’ll also come with more RAM at 6GB instead of 4GB on the S9.
Beyond these differences, the Galaxy S9 phones are said to come 10nm chipsets, 64GB of internal storage – further expandable with a microSD card – and yes, even 3.5mm headphone jacks. AKG stereo speakers are said to be present on the Galaxy S9 phones too, on top of a new backward-compatible DeX docking station that will put the phones flat to act as a touchpad or virtual keyboard.
If these information are accurate, the Samsung Galaxy S9 devices are shaping up to be very interesting flagship phones. Hopefully, we’ll learn more come CES 2018.
