Woman arrested in killing of O'Reilly manager

James Haller, Jr. was shot Wednesday during a robbery of the store on Schaefer.
Detroit police have arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with the fatal shooting of an O’Reilly Auto Parts manager.
Two women were robbing the store on Schaefer Road in Detroit Wednesday when one of them shot James Haller, Jr. The next day, company officials said they were offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who could help police find his killer.
In announcing the arrest Friday evening, police released few details.
«At this time, we are still in the early phase of our investigation and will issue a statement when information becomes available,» Detroit Police Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood said in an e-mail.
According to authorities, Haller heard commotion in the store at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. When he walked from the rear of the store to the front, he discovered two women robbing the business. One of them had a handgun and fatally shot Haller when he approached them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Thursday at a press conference.
In addition to O’Reilly’s $10,000 reward, Crime Stoppers offered a $2,500 reward for information about the case.
«We’re going to find you, there is an award out for you. Turn yourself in, this family wants justice, we want justice,» Craig said.
Haller was a Marine veteran who served in the Vietnam War. In the late 1970s, he served as a reserve police officer in the city of Detroit.
