AMD Always Connected PCs will include Qualcomm modems

Today at a Qualcomm event in Hawaii, AMD took to the stage to announce that there will be Always Connected PCs that use AMD processors, and those will include Snapdragon modems from Qualcomm.
Today, Qualcomm is holding an event in Hawaii, where the company took the stage alongside new partners like Microsoft, ASUS, and HP. The companies announced all-new Windows on ARM PCs, including HP’s Envy x2 and ASUS’s NovaGo.
But if PCs running on ARM processors wasn’t enough of a shot at Intel, AMD took to the stage next, announcing its own partnership with Qualcomm.
The Windows on ARM PCs are part of a broader Always Connected PC initiative, but those cellular machines don’t need to have an ARM processor. The new Surface Pro offers LTE but with an Intel chip. Now though, you’ll be able to get an Always Connected PC with an AMD processor and Qualcomm modem.
Qualcomm’s modems that have been used in Always Connected PCs, the Snapdragon X16, offer speeds of up to 1Gbps, so you can expect to see that in upcoming AMD machines. AMD said that it has begun working with partners to bring these new Always Connected PCs to market, but didn’t offer a timeframe.
