Fort Pierce man arrested after police say he threatened to shoot 13-year-old after argument

FORT PIERCE — A Fort Pierce man was arrested after a woman said he hit her 13-year-old son and threatened to shoot him, according to an arrest affidavit.
Tavares Calhoun, 19, of the 200 block of Heath Street, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, battery and resisting an officer without violence.
At about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Fort Pierce police officers responded to a call from a woman who said men were coming to her house with guns. Emergency dispatchers said they could hear the woman yelling for someone to put a gun down, according to the report.
A woman was watching her children playing in the neighborhood when she saw Calhoun arguing with her 13-year-old son. She told police Calhoun hit her son in the face, according to the report.
The boy threw a Nerf toy gun at Calhoun, hitting him in the head. Calhoun said he was going to come back with a gun, according to the report.
Later, the mother saw Calhoun coming closer to the apartment complex, so the family ran inside their apartment, according to the report. The mother said she saw Calhoun holding a gun in front of the apartment complex.
She told police Calhoun said he was going to kill the boy, according to the report.
Police did not identify where the crime took place because a juvenile was involved.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw Calhoun and other men running into an apartment on the 300 block of Rockland Drive. Officers stopped four men and searched the area for a gun, but didn’t find one.
Calhoun told police he got into an argument with a kid but denied having a gun, according to the report.
Calhoun was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. His bail amount is unknown.
