Police do not believe the shooting was self-inflicted.
SAGINAW TWP, MI — A 64-year-old man shot twice in his apartment early Monday morning isn’t too sure how it happened, police say.
The man survived the gunshots — a wound to the arm and a graze across the head — and police believe they were not self-inflicted, said Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl.
Police found the man bleeding on his kitchen floor around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, in Camelot Place Apartments off of South Center Road, Pussehl said.
While no one reported hearing gunshots, neighbors called after hearing noises from the man’s apartment, possibly pleas for help, the chief said.
Initially, police thought the man had fallen and hit his head, Pussehl said. A doctor later found the man was shot in the arm.
The man told detectives he only remembers being in bed, waking up and then lying on the floor, Pussehl said. He didn’t recall being shot.
The man didn’t report anything stolen or any possible motive for the shooting, the chief said. There was no indication of forced entry.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Saginaw Township Police Department at 989-793-2310, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-422-5245 (JAIL).
Another report of shots fired at Camelot Place Apartments occurred Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, around 3:30 a.m., the chief said.
A woman called to report a bullet had broken her window and then lodged in a wall, Pussehl said.
Officers found a man in the area who told them he was walking with a friend when they happened upon a group of four other people, Pussehl said.
The man told police one of the four fired two shots at him and his friend, the chief said. No one was injured.
That incident remains under investigation. Pussehl said his department is putting together a plan to step up enforcement efforts in the area.
