No one matched all six numbers, so the ultimate prize increases for Wednesday’s drawing.
Someone in Iowa is ending 2017 on a very positive note.
According to a Sunday news release from the Iowa Lottery, someone bought a Powerball ticket in Colfax that is now worth $1 million.
The ticket, which was purchased at the Kum & Go convenience store at 1200 N. Walnut St. in Colfax, matched the first five numbers needed for the $390.1 million Powerball jackpot. However, the final number, known as the “Powerball,” did not match.
Still, any ticket matching the first five numbers automatically wins $1 million. That means someone in Iowa is $1 million richer (minus taxes, of course).
Those lucky numbers, drawn Saturday evening, were 28-36-41-51-58. The winner can claim the prize at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive as early as Tuesday, when the office re-opens after New Year’s celebrations.
The Kum and Go in Colfax will receive a $1,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the ticket.
According to the release, the ticket bought in Colfax was one of three $1 million winners on Saturday night. The other two were purchased in New Hampshire and New Jersey.
No one matched all six numbers to win the jackpot, so the big prize climbs to an estimated $440 million annuity ($278.3 million cash option) for Wednesday.
Five Iowa Lottery players have now claimed prizes of at least $1 million in calendar year 2017, all of them in the Powerball game, according to the release.
