The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi reveals that he has ‘lots of ideas’ for new content to put into the title, as well as the next game.
Without a doubt, the release of The Champions’ Ballad has been a huge hit with most, if not all of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s myriad fans, particularly due to Nintendo’s decision to include what is essentially a motorbike for Link named the Master Cycle Zero. Now with the second DLC’s launch out of the way, the director of the action-adventure epic, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, has revealed that he not only has “lots of ideas” for new content to be included in the Switch title, but also for the next game.
During a discussion with IGN, Fujibayashi talked about how he is already thinking about what’s coming around the bend following the launch of all that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has offered so far. To be more specific, the director explained, “I can’t say at this point if it will be in sequels or in continuations, or what form it will take, but I definitely have lots of ideas and lots of motivation right now,” which indicates potential fuel for a direct sequel is being refined.
As far as Fujibayashi’s overall motivation to make fresh creations for The Legend of Zelda franchise is concerned, though, the director’s qualification of him not knowing how the new ideas will be used shouldn’t be interpreted as Breath of the Wild‘s followup already being in development. Instead, it simply shows an insight into Fujibayashi’s creative process, as it seems as if the successful introduction of the first two DLC packs for BotW serves as a positive inspiration for him to deliver more quality content. As a matter of fact, the director said that the process of making the expansions while getting feedback from colleagues and fans helped coax out more gameplay ideas.
“I think while we were working on both the main game and the DLC, it was a process of constantly getting lots of different, new ideas as we refined the game, and finding new things we wanted to do. Even in situations like this, talking to people and finding out that people want to pet dogs gives me a lot of motivation, a lot of ideas for things we could put into the game.”
All things considered, the prospect of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s director already conjuring up new ideas for the Switch title and the series as a whole should come as exciting news to the franchise’s fans. Hidemaro Fujibayashi has previously divulged that BotW almost added a Spider-Man styled travel system with the use of Link’s hookshot, so it will definitely be interesting to learn what other unique ideas and features could get implemented down the line.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
