The family of the woman and two kids who died in an Immokalee pond addressed speculation that the crash was intentional.
“We know she didn’t just drive in the water,” said the children’s grandmother, Latasha Tuff. “Something went wrong somewhere because she is a woman who loves her children.”
Shatoria Brown and her two youngest children died after their car ended up in a neighborhood pond. First responders found the SUV in the water with two children inside the car and their mom in the water nearby.
“She and her children don’t deserve this,” said Tuff. “She had a full life ahead of her, and she was excited about so much.”
Family members are still trying to process what happened. Brown and her five children were with family just before the crash.
“Shatoria was with us the night of the incident,” said her cousin, Lashonda Croker. “When she didn’t text me when she got home like she always does, I started to look for her.”
Troopers are still investigating how Brown’s car ended up in the pond. Family members said rumors swirled around the small town of Immokalee, but they do not believe Brown crashed on purpose.
“She’s not a mother who would just run her kids off in the water like that. Something went wrong,” Tuff said.
They call Brown a loving mother who raised all five of her kids on her own.
The Immokalee community has come together to support this family. There are fundraisers planned every day this week and the family has set up a GoFundMe page for funeral expenses.
