UPDATE [1/30/18,2:20 p.m. ET]:
Police reportedly found Salling’s body hanging from a tree at a baseball field after receiving a call telling them to perform a “welfare check” on the 35-year-old actor.
All signs, according to detectives, pointed to suicide.
At 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, according to TMZ, one of Salling’s family members reported him as a missing person.
Original Story:
Mark Salling — who played Noah “Puck” Puckerman on “Glee” — died in an apparent suicide after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography in December.
A source confirmed the 35-year-old’s death to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday, just over a month before his sentencing, which was scheduled for March 7.
According to TMZ, Salling may have hung himself, and his body was found near a riverbed in Sunland, California.
Salling appeared to attempt suicide in August when he cut his wrists. Salling’s lawyers, however, denied it was a suicide attempt.
THR had more information on Salling’s case:
Salling reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in October after admitting he possessed images of prepubescent children. A search warrant found more than 50,000 images of child porn on his computer and a thumb drive.
Salling was facing between four to seven years in prison. He would also have been required to register as a sex offender.
“I am pleading guilty because I am guilty of the charges and wish to take advantage of the promises set forth in this agreement, and not for any other reason,” Salling said, according to The Sun .
Salling played a football player on the show “Glee,” offering a tough guy persona to the cast.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated with additional information.
