Pennsylvania Shooting Involves One Marshall Killed,2 Officers Injured

Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse said a wounded officer “bravely returned fire and critically injured the gunman.”
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Mayor Eric Papenfuse announced Thursday morning that a U. S. deputy marshal was killed and two law enforcement officers were injured while serving an arrest warrant, WHTM reports .
One officer was wounded, the mayor said, but “bravely returned fire and critically injured the gunman.”
The gunman is “not at large,” Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo said. The shooting occurred around 6:10 a.m.
A large-scale investigation involving the FBI, the state police, and the U. S. Marshals Service is now underway.
“No words can adequately express the sadness we feel at this moment as we contemplate the loss of yet another law enforcement officer in the line of duty,” Papenfuse said in a statement. “I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of the slain U. S. marshal, to his colleagues and to all law enforcement officers who risk their lives each day to protect and to serve our city and our nation.”
A news conference with more information is scheduled for 2 p.m.
