Attendees at the awards on Sunday will sport white roses in solidarity with the women’s equality movement that has swept Hollywood, according to Billboard.
“Music artists have a lot of impact,” said Roc Nation exec Karen Rait, who came up with the idea with colleague Meg Harkins. “So it’s only fitting that music’s biggest night show the support for equality and safety in the workplace and that people need to be cognizant of their fellow employees.”
Celebrities including Halsey, Kelly Clarkson and Cyndi Lauper are expected to wear a white rose to the awards show.
The women who came up with the idea dubbed themselves “Voices in Entertainment,” and collectively decided on the white rose “because it is a practical and traditional accessory with a symbolic color,” according to Billboard, referencing the suffragettes and Hillary Clinton, who donned the color to get a public message across.
Harkins and Riat said they were inspired by the women who supported Time’s Up at the Golden Globes and want to keep the momentum of the movement.
“It’s very important that we stay on their message,” said Rait. “The amount of work they have been able to do in just three short weeks is inspiring.”
According to the site, the night is expected to take on the theme of women’s empowerment and equality similar to Globes night.
A Grammys rep did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
