While MWC 2018 is ongoing, the season of new phone launches has only just begun. Today’s news space was primarily taken over by smartphone leaks and speculations. From Apple’s plan for iPhones this year to why the Xiaomi 2018 flagship is being delayed, here’s taking a look in brief at the most striking news stories of the day.
Apple is reportedly working on launching three new iPhones with a design similar to that of iPhone X. With the new lineup, Apple plans to also launch its biggest iPhone yet, one that will be as big as the existing iPhone 8 Plus. Reportedly, the 2018 iPhone lineup will also include an updated iPhone X model, and a cheaper version that will serve as replacement to iPhone 8.
A leak today claims to have revealed the price of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in the Indian market. As per the leak, the Galaxy S9 64GB variant will retail at Rs 62,500 in India, whereas the 256GB variant will be sold at Rs 71,000. For the larger Galaxy S9+ the leaked price is Rs 70,000 for the 64GB variant and Rs 79,000 for the 256GB model. Samsung has not released the official pricing yet.
Xiaomi Mi 7 has today been reported to have been delayed owing to the in-display fingerprint sensor it is believed to feature. From what has been leaked, the Xiaomi Mi 7 launch will be delayed until June 2018. Apparently, the addition of the in-display fingerprint sensor is still underway, and that’s why the Mi 7 will be delayed.
Apparently, BlackBerry is working on a new smartphone that will be exclusive to the Indian market. A render of the purported BlackBerry smartphone, weirdly named ‘Ghost’, has been leaked, which reveals an edge-to-edge display, and a slim form factor. Apparently, the BlackBerry Ghost has been designed by Delhi-based telecom, Optiemus.
Today the Moto E5 Plus also made news with a purported leak, which showed the device featuring a 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, a dual rear camera setup at the back, and a USB Type-C port at the bottom. There have also been reports that Motorola is considering integrating the fingerprint sensor within the Moto dimple at the back.
Lava has announced its Lava Z50 smartphone, which will run the customized OS. The smartphone comes with enhanced available storage space of 5.5GB, against the 3GB which is typically on offer on low storage phones.
The smartphone is pre-loaded with optimized Google apps, like YouTube Go, which lets you download, watch and share videos while controlling your data. It further comes with support for search in 10 major Indian languages including Hindi. It also allows you to search for images, weather, and also translate from search home screen.
