Google has released the latest Android distribution chart for the month of February where we see Nougat finally taking the top spot as the most-used version of Android after a year and a half since its initial rollout. This means that Android 6.0 Marshmallow has now been pushed to the second spot. Meanwhile, Android Oreo is ever so slowly improving its numbers having finally crossed the 1 per cent mark this month.
As per the latest distribution chart, Android Oreo (8.0 and 8.1) is present in 1.1 per cent of all active Android devices. This is slightly better than last month where Oreo accounted for only 0.7 per cent of all active devices. A lot more smartphones in recent weeks have started receiving the Oreo update including the OnePlus 5T, Moto X4 and Honor 8 Pro among others. It isn’t all that surprising considering the time it takes for OEMs to push out new Android updates. For a lot of people still, the version that comes out-of-the-box is usually the only version they ever get.
The chart shows that Android 7.0 and 7.1 Nougat combined make up for 28.5 per cent of all active Android devices, which means it is now the most used OS. Android 6.0 Marshmallow follows in second place with 28.1 per cent. Meanwhile, Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop combine to make up 24.6 per cent of all active devices. Android 4.4 KitKat has dipped marginally from 12.8 per cent last month to 12 per cent this month, while Android Jelly Bean is running in 5 per cent of all devices. Meanwhile, Android Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich are still kicking in under 1 per cent of total active devices.

Companies like Samsung are also expected to push out Oreo update for past flagships like the Galaxy S8-series soon.
