New loot, 2v2 Crucible and the return of Burning Shrine
Bungie is bringing back Crimson Days, Destiny’s Valentine’s Day-themed seasonal event, next week. Destiny 2 ’s version of Crimson Days will see the return of two-on-two Clash mode in competitive multiplayer and the return of a beloved Crucible map, the Burning Shrine (now known as The Burnout). Naturally, there will also be plenty of fresh cosmetic loot to acquire.
Destiny 2 ’s Crimson Days event starts Feb. 13, and it looks like Bungie has learned to be much more generous with its loot in response to negative player feedback from last year’s The Dawning event. Bungie says it’s not capping the number of Crimson Engrams — the drops that hold event-specific loot — that players can earn during Crimson Days, and promises that players won’t receive duplicate items until they’ve earned all of the new event gear.
“The best way to earn rewards during Crimson Days is to compete in the Crimson Days Crucible playlist, and we’ve tuned the experience to focus on rewarding single-character play,” Bungie said. “Most rewards are found within a new Crimson Engram, with all contents on a ‘knock-out’ list, preventing you from receiving duplicate items until you’ve earned all of the new gear.”
Each time players level up, they’ll receive both an Illuminated Engram and a Crimson Engram. That’s a much more appealing prospect than The Dawning, which was stingy with event engrams and extremely generous with duplicate items.
Crimson Days will also include five new rewards that are tied to certain milestones. From Bungie:
Complete the milestone “Welcome to Crimson Days” by finishing five Crimson Days matches and visiting Lord Shaxx in the Tower to earn the Fire of the Crimson Days Emblem and the Tirastrella Exotic Ghost Shell.
Complete matches in the Crimson Days Crucible playlist for a chance to earn the Undeterred Exotic Sparrow.
Complete either the Leviathan Raid or the Raid Lair: Eater of Worlds to claim the Dieselpunk Exotic Ornament for Wardcliff Coil from the final chest.
Complete the Nightfall Strike during the Crimson Days event to earn the Flaunting Dance Emote.
That “Flaunting Dance Emote” will look very familiar to Beyoncé fans.
Bungie emphasized that Crimson Engrams will “only be earnable through gameplay,” adding that some items can be purchased with Bright Dust from the Eververse in-game store. Purchased gear will also count toward the “knock-out” list, Bungie said, to prevent duplicates. And in more good loot news, “Every reward item obtained from a Crimson Engram can also be dismantled for Bright Dust, including event-specific shaders.”
Crimson Days will begin Tuesday, Feb. 13, and run for one week. More details on the event’s loot are available at Bungie.net .
