New updates for Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
Now at version 16.11, Outlook for Mac comes with several fixes for the February update, including improved People experience. Microsoft says that “when creating a new email or event, pressing delete key after clicking on a recipient to display the new contact card now removes the recipient without having to first dismiss the card.”
Additionally, users can now add a second time zone to the calendar grid and have a label for the default time zone, while also being allowed to set start and end time zones correctly.
At the same time, Excel for Mac comes with bug fixes for several crashes and the icon used for inserting a Timeline filter to a PivotTable. Microsoft says it’s aware of two issues, one of which prevents the Format Pane from opening for new chart types.
PowerPoint is getting rendering support for embedded fonts, as well as text highlight support, which is offered to Office 365 subscribers exclusively. There are also known issues for PowerPoint, including intermittent problems when copying and pasting a table from Excel.
Word and OneNote haven’t received any new features or bug fixes this month. While Word was included in the January rollout, OneNote hasn’t actually been updated in a long time, as the last fixes were released to the app as part of the insider program in August last year.
Keep in mind that all these improvements are available for insider builds, but should be released to everyone in the coming weeks after Microsoft completes the testing process. No ETA is available at this point, but depending on the feedback received by the company, the update should land rather sooner than later.
