Rainbow Six Siege isn’t receiving a sequel, but it is receiving plenty of support from Ubisoft and players as the game moves into its next year of content.
During a panel at the 2018 Invitational Finals, Rainbow Six Siege was discussed in a high degree of detail. Although Ubisoft has two unknown triple-A titles set to release by April 2019, it was never likely that the tactical shooter would receive a sequel that soon. It has now been revealed that there is no sequel planned at any point.
It shouldn’t be surprising, considering the amount of support Ubisoft has placed behind Rainbow Six Siege. It was even mentioned that the game was there to stay for 10 years, although that comment should be taken with a grain of salt. Not only is the game receiving support from Ubisoft, but its active player base continues to grow (27 million+).
Several other things were also revealed during the panel, such as 8 new operators coming in Year 3 (with the overall goal to reach 100 operations eventually). Finka and Lion are the first operators to be made available. The standard edition will also start with all 20 legacy (original) operators, and the starter edition will expand from 4 operators to 6. Another benefit is that, moving forward, all weapon attachments will be free and unlocked from the start.
Updates are also set to improve the Pro-League, with the observation tool taking precedence. The league will be 1 team attacking 5 times, then reversing to the other team. Pick and Ban will also be available, where each side gets to ban 1 attacker and 1 defender for the whole map.
Moreover, maps are also getting some attention and are being renovated and rebalanced, with Bomb mode being a focal point. “Yacht” is returning to casual, and “Hereford” is the first set to be reworked. “Clubhouse” is going to receive a buff, as every season a map is set to receive a few, small changes that should improve the meta.
Finally, it was revealed that LAN-based competitions will be happening. It is unknown when these updates will become available, but they may be welcomed by the ever-growing player base. With the Outbreak event finally being detailed, it seems Rainbow Six Siege fans are going to have a good year. Since the game isn’t receiving a sequel, at least it is getting tons of support.
Rainbow Six Siege is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The Outbreak event will launch on March 5,2018 and will run until April 3,2018.
