Another Tigers pitching prospect will miss start of season with injury

Matt Manning was diagnosed with a low-level oblique strain on Tuesday, the team announced this morning.
LAKELAND, Fla. — Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Matt Manning was diagnosed with a low-level oblique strain on Tuesday, the team announced this morning.
It was the second injury to befall a top prospect in the last three days.
Franklin Perez was injured in a minor-league game on Sunday .
Perez is the top-ranked Tigers’ prospect, according to MLB Pipeline; Manning is No. 2.
The team said Manning will rest until he is free of pain, then work in extended spring training until he is ready to be activated. He’s expected to start the year with Class A West Michigan.
Manning, 20, was the Tigers’ first-round pick in 2016. He went 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA at West Michigan and short-season Connecticut in 2017.
