A longtime confidant of President Trump said Sunday that the president has called the controversy surrounding Stormy Daniels a “political hoax.”
“He said he thought that much of the Stormy Daniels stuff was a political hoax,” Chris Ruddy said during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”
“Again, those were his words.”
The comments come ahead of a highly anticipated “60 Minutes” interview with Daniels that is scheduled to air Sunday night. She is expected to reveal details of the affair she claims she had with Trump in 2006.
Last week, her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, hinted that he may have evidence of Daniels’s alleged affair with Trump by posting a photo of what appeared to be a DVD on Twitter.
The Washington Post reported that Trump has been complaining about the media attention Daniels has been receiving. He has also questioned how the controversy surrounding Daniels could impact his poll numbers, the Post reported, citing people familiar with the conversations.
