Thomas Meyer’s family is heartbroken. But now, they’re on a mission.
ST. LOUIS – A driver killed Thomas Meyer in a hit and run and his family wants that driver to come forward.
Thomas lived downtown with his parents and his younger brother, Kevin Meyer.
« We were tight, » Kevin said. « We were real close. »
Kevin says he and his brother were on their way to the Mobil gas station on N. 13th Street and Cass Avenue. Thomas told Kevin to jog ahead of him. Kevin will never forget what he saw after he left the store.
« It was my brother laying in a pool of blood, » he said. « I never left my brother’s side. From the night I found him until his last breath. »
A police report said, on the 1300 block of N. 13th St., a driver hit Thomas Friday, March 16, at 2:40 AM, and left the scene. However, Kevin says it happened Saturday, March 17, at around 12:50 AM.
Kevin and his family spent the weekend in the hospital hoping his health would improve. Dawn Braddum is his aunt.
« He had very little brain activity, » she said. « My sister had a decision to make which was the hardest one of her life, to pull the plug. »
Sunday, Thomas died. He was 24.
« That just about made me fall on the floor, for real, » Kevin said.
They’re all heartbroken. But now, they’re on a mission.
« He needs to turn himself in, » Dawn said. « He or she, whoever it is. They need to turn themselves in. »
They ask witnesses to come forward, too. They also hope surveillance footage at nearby businesses will lead to an arrest.
Thomas’ funeral is scheduled for this Friday. There is a GoFundMe account to help support the family during this difficult time.
