The companies of Epic Games and People Can Fly officially release the first gameplay trailer for Fortnite Battle Royale running on iOS mobile devices.
Just a few days ago, Epic Games and People Can Fly officially announced that Fortnite Battle Royale would be receiving a mobile version for iOS devices first and Android platforms at a later date at some point this year. Now, the companies have decided to give fans an idea as to how the free-to-play mode will operate and play on Apple devices by releasing the first look at gameplay running on an iOS device with a brand new trailer.
As seen below in Fortnite Battle Royale’s mobile reveal trailer for iOS devices, the footage shown was captured on an iPhone X, with the gameplay containing every feature, mechanic, and aspect of the console and PC iterations. As many might have expected, the ability to move one’s character is dictated by the sliding of the left thumb in the lower left-hand portion of the screen, while shooting, looting, building, and using all of the other features of the game will be implemented by tapping designated areas on the rest of the screen.
For those who are intrigued by the possibility of playing Fortnite Battle Royale on their respective Apple products, Epic Games has already opened iOS Invite Event signups, which will register a user for selection in a lottery-type scenario to be sent an email from the company to play as soon as the game’s available on said devices. Those who are chosen to take part will receive a download code, as well as invite codes for other users.
All things considered, while Epic Games assures fans that the iOS and Android versions of Fortnite Battle Royale will be the full experience found within the PC and console versions of the free-to-play portion of the game – with crossplay available in different capacities – it makes one wonder if the mechanics of the game will translate well to mobile platforms. Although many titles have successfully ported existing properties into mobile versions, some might argue that a console or PC user will have a major advantage over those playing on their phone or tablet. Then again, the same argument can be made with console users against PC players, so perhaps it’s just a matter of giving fans the freedom to find their preferred method of play.
Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
