The rumors about Ubisoft bringing a sequel to The Division somewhere in the future have come true. The company has announced today that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is happening, with no release date or content info yet revealed.
According to a blog post on Ubisoft’s website which also revealed the logo for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, the game is a collective effort with Massive Entertainment leading that project and Ubisoft Annecy, Redstorm, Reflections, Ubisoft Bucharest and Ubisoft Shanghai also being participants.
Earlier today, on The Division’s official Twitch.tv channel, it was revealed that news about the game is coming later in the day with a Twitter account teasing the news as well.
The developing team has put a lot of effort in keeping The Division updated and full of content up to this point, with several expansions and many more free updates bringing more features and new items. As Mathias Karlson, the game director said:
Massive Entertainment has always envisioned the story in the game as the beginning chapter in a larger saga, as Creative Director Julian Gerighty revealed. According to his words, we’ll be able to see more of The Division 2 at E3 2018 in June, which seems like a pretty good deal.
He also revealed that a new type of achievement called “Shields” will be added to the first game, which will be actively connected to its sequel. He explained:
As for the first title, there will be two more updates coming, bringing the “Shields”, two global events, an Xbox One X support patch supporting both 4K and 1080p resolutions, and four more legendary missions.
Furthermore, The Division’s anniversary event has already started and will run all March, bringing a new theme each week and rewarding you with some cool loot.
