A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head at a Citgo on Livernois and Puritan, police say.
A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot in the head at a Citgo gas station on Detroit’s west side, police said.
At about 2 p.m., a verbal altercation between two men in the gas station, at Livernois and Puritan, led to a physical fight outside. One of the men then fired several shots at the other, who took cover behind a car — inside of which there was a woman and the child.
The shooter continued firing, and one of the bullets struck the girl, who was driven by police to a hospital. Police arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.
Assistant Chief Arnold Williams said the violent crime is unacceptable.
“We have a lot of individuals who out here who have problems with conflict resolution,” Williams said. “They are hurting innocent bystanders.”
He said Detroit Police Department is working hard to keep people safe.
“Great job by all officers involved (in this case),” Williams said.
