Twitch streamer Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins breaks his own record during yet another massive esports Fortnite event that pulled in over 667,000 concurrent viewers.
If there’s one thing that’s been insanely popular in 2018, it’s Fortnite. But, if there are two wildly popular trends in the gaming world this year, they are Fornite and Ninja. The streamer has skyrocketed to the top of Twitch’s record charts and he continues to build a stronger following all the time.
It may feel like Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins just blew some records out of the water a few weeks ago (while playing Fortnite with Drake and a Pittsburgh Steeler), but he’s already back at it again. Wednesday night at an Esports Arena event in Las Vegas, Ninja took on a host of top tier Fortnite players while streaming. At its peak, the stream had over 667,000 concurrent viewers.
That total is enough for Ninja to shatter his own single-streamer record of 600,000 viewers from last month. At this point, he’s got quite a lead over the rest of the most popular gamers on Twitch, despite the recent controversy surrounding his stream.
As the popularity of Fortnite continues to grow, Ninja seems to be in a great position to continue capitalizing on the battle royale craze that is sweeping the industry. He’s got the skill to hang in competitive games and has definitely found a voice that connects with a very large audience.
As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see how many other records Ninja is able to claim as his own. In the unlikely event that Fortnite fever dies off sooner than expected, it would also be interesting to see how the entertainer would pivot to remain relevant in the industry. He’s certainly got the history and skill set to transition to other popular games, but for now it makes sense that he’s hung his hat on the Fortnite brand.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
