Rare releases a patch for Sea of Thieves that should fix a few issues with the game including adjustments to ship respawn distances along with other bug fixes.
Things haven’t necessarily been smooth sailing for Sea of Thieves since its launch, with a patch that ended up locking some players out of the game and talk of a death cost that has since been abandoned. While some of the issues have been fixed, like players being locked out, Rare is still working on patches to resolve other issues. Today a new patch was released and though it doesn’t feature a lot of changes, there is one important improvement.
Posted on the official Sea of Thieves forum, the notes detail what issues were fixed with today’s patch. The most notable changes are to ship respawn distance and the mermaid teleport. The developers received fan feedback that the way ships were respawning put them too close to the other ship that sunk them, causing there to be issues with griefing.
Moreover, if players were fighting over a fortress things usually devolved into a stalemate, where the defeated ship/players kept returning quickly. As of the patch, ships will no longer spawn within viewing distance of whoever sunk them, allowing crews of the sunken ship to get their bearings again and the victories fleets to plunder worry-free.
As far as the mermaid teleport is concerned, Rare was getting feedback that players were unaware using the teleport caused them to lose any treasure (chests, stashes, skulls) when using it to get back to their ship. To resolve this, Rare has made it so players must drop any treasure before they are able to use the teleport. This way, the player will know beforehand that they must give up whatever treasure they are carrying to be able to return to their ship.
To round it out, there were a few other bugs and performance issues the patch addressed. For instance, some PC errors and a bug where the game would get stuck at 99% installation have been resolved. Captain rank now displays on the voyage image on the captain’s table, as well. There were also issues where the game became unresponsive upon accepting an invite and bounty captains would spawn multiple times. These two issues were also fixed in patch, along with server and client crash fixes.
The developer did state it was aware of other issues in the game and that the team is currently looking to fix those as well. A full, detailed list of the fixes and current known issues can be found on the forum post.
While this should do a little bit to remedy issues players currently have with the game, the community has other concerns with the title, like lack of content, which Rare will more than likely also address at some point. There is quite a community for the game, especially on Xbox One, where the title became the fastest-selling first-party IP on the console.
Sea of Thieves is now available for PC and Xbox One
