A Nintendo UK listing for the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy for Nintendo Switch sparks fresh speculation that the remastered Spyro games will be launching on the platform.
Earlier today, Activision officially announced the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. Set to release this September, the highly anticipated remaster of the classic franchise will give three of the Spyro games a total makeover, vastly improving their graphics and controls and generally making the games suitable for modern platforms.
But while fans of the titular purple dragon were delighted with the announcement, which came after months upon months of rumors, some were left scratching their heads. The Spyro series seems so suitable for the Nintendo Switch, so why was the game only announced for PS4 and Xbox One?
Those eager to play the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy on the Switch need not give up hope just yet, as a listing on the Nintendo UK store suggests that the games may be headed to the Nintendo platform after all. The Nintendo UK store had the Spyro remaster listed as Spyro the Dragon Remastered, with pre-orders open and the game priced at £39.99 (roughly the same price of the PS4 and Xbox One versions).
Since fans spotted the listing, it has since been removed from the Nintendo UK store and links to the page no longer work. However, as evidenced by the tweet above, fans were quick to take screenshots before the listing was removed to prove that it really did exist.
The listing isn’t the only piece of evidence that suggests that the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy really is headed to the Nintendo Switch. Laura Kate Dale, a journalist who also leaked games such as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle as well as the (now confirmed) Nintendo Switch version of Dark Souls, tweeted that she “still believe[s]” that the game is coming to the Switch.
Moreover, the developer behind the Nintendo Switch version of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Toys for Bob, is also working on the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. The developer certainly has the relevant experience to bring Spyro to the Switch too.
If Spyro really is coming to the Nintendo Switch then it’s likely that Nintendo is holding back on the news, waiting to announce it during a Nintendo Direct livestream. The same situation happened with Crash Bandicoot on Switch – rumors about the game’s release swirled for quite some time before the official reveal. It’s also unclear whether Spyro will launch later on the Switch than Crash did, but fingers crossed that Nintendo and Activision won’t wait too soon to explain all.
Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will launch on September 21 for PS4 and Xbox One.
