The psychedelic animated film inspired by the Fab Four’s music will be re-released to mark its 50th anniversary.
The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” is floating back into theaters this summer.
The psychedelic animated film inspired by the Fab Four’s music will be re-released across the U. S., the UK and Ireland to mark its 50th anniversary.
Fans will be treated to an upgraded high-definition version of the fantasy comedy that originally debuted on July 17,1968.
Expect it to surface in July, according to a post on the band’s Facebook page.
“Brimming with peace, love and hope, and propelled by 5.1 stereo surround sound, share the Yellow Submarine experience with your fellow fans and initiate those not in the know,” the Facebook post reads. “This 4k restoration on the big screen is a rare opportunity to fully submerge yourself in The Beatles’ timeless musical and visual delights.”
Tunes featured in the flick include, of course, “Yellow Submarine,” along with “All Together Now,” “Baby, You’re a Rich Man,” and “All You Need Is Love.”
The story centers on the music-loving Pepperland, which is under attack from the music-hating Blue Meanies, until animated versions of The Beatles step in to save the day.
Though John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr appear in a live-action scene at the end of the movie, their cartoon counterparts were actually voiced by others.
The critically acclaimed film was nominated for a 1970 Grammy for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special, losing out to “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
