“They let him have three years of declining performance before they addressed this issue.”
For Shannon Sharpe – and perhaps Jerry Jones too – the reason for the Cowboys to part ways with Dez Bryant was simple: His stats.
“When I talk about Dez, I don’t talk about him personally. I talk about what I see on the field.” @ShannonSharpe reacts to Dez Bryant’s tweet pic.twitter.com/fhur2EqTkk
“He doesn’t play the slot, he doesn’t move around. Why he doesn’t move around? That’s neither here nor there. But the fact of the matter is they’re having a conversation with a guy who has had declining performance over the last three years. Think about that, now. They let him have three years of declining performance before they addressed this issue. Where do they do that at if they’re trying to win?
… Even when I was playing, you couldn’t have three years of declining production and still stay at the same salary! Now they want some of that money back after one year of bad performance.”
Bryant played in 16 games for the first time since 2014 in the 2017 season. After three 1200-yard seasons from 2012-2014, he hasn’t gotten over the 900-yard mark since 2014. In 2017, he scored six touchdowns – 10 less than his-career high in 2014.
