Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t include a traditional single-player campaign. You’ll be able to experience multiplayer, Zombies mode and a battle royale mode when you buy the game but no campaign for this one. However, that doesn’t mean that future franchise titles won’t do as well as Treyarch reveals.
As a big surprise to fans, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t include a traditional single-player campaign as its predecessors. You’ll be able to experience multiplayer, Zombies mode and a battle royale mode when you buy the game but no campaign for this one. However, that doesn’t mean that future franchise titles won’t do as well as Treyarch reveals.
According to Yale Miller, Senior Producer at Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s main thrill is its multiplayer along with the Zombies mode. That’s why when they made they title they realized that it doesn’t need a campaign at all. That doesn’t mean though that they are stepping down from the existence of a campaign entirely.
In an interview with Daily Star Online at the Community Day reveal event in Los Angeles he stated:
“[The single player mode] is only missing at this moment in time”
“I really think with every game we make, we finish that title and then we ask ‘what is it fans are gonna love the most?’ If that’s another traditional campaign, then we’ll make another traditional campaign.
“But right now, for what our goals were for Black Ops 4, it was just [multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout] that we were focused on.”
“I love narrative games, there’s a place for narrative games, but for us and what we wanted to do, it was the right decision [to not have a single-player campaign]”.
Keeping that statement in mind, other Call of Duty developers Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward may indeed create stunning campaigns for their future titles, like the ones we used to get chills from in the past. Miller is excited to see what both teams have in store for the franchise, however, he reveals he has no idea what their plans are:
“In terms of the future of the franchise, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer are their own awesome teams, they’re doing their own thing. And I have no idea what they’re doing!”
PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will see Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on October 12. The game is going to be the first Call of Duty title to release on Battle. Net so that means no Steam version for the franchise this time. Are you considering pre-ordering it? Here’s everything you need to know before doing so.
