At its annual F8 developer conference, Facebook yesterday announced the launch of Graph API 3.0 as well as enhanced developer app review.
The third version of the company’s Graph API contain a number of changes to Facebook Login and the /comments edge. There is also a change that restricts access to edges and fields when a User access token is used. Specifically, when such a token is used, only data for the current user will be returned.
The Graph API 3.0 also introduces a number of breaking changes that will go into effect in 90 days. These include reduced rate limits, the elimination of certain metrics from the Page Insights API, and a new type of Place ID for the Places Graph.
In addition to these changes, Facebook is implementing an enhanced app review process and says developers whose apps need certain API permissions ” will be required to verify their business and sign a supplemental terms contract.” Developers who create apps as a third-party provider to other businesses will also be required to sign an additional contract that restricts the data they can use.
Enhanced app review is clearly a response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal that Facebook is still facing the fallout from.
More information about the Graph API 3.0 can be found in the changelog .
