LG confirmed that the decision to not include an OLED panel in the G7 ThinQ was to leave some of the more premium parts and features to its V-series line. The G7 ThinQ utilizes an LCD panel.
LG most recently announced its G7 ThinQ and although the handset is the firm’s latest flagship model, it doesn’t offer an OLED panel. Apparently, LG is reserving OLED for its V-series devices.
According to Android Headlines, who spoke with LG on the subject, the firm states that it wants to “reserve the OLED panels for its “more innovative” series of smartphones”. It appears that it wasn’t due to a cost difference either, as the new LCD panels it is using in the G7 ThinQ are quite expensive. The firm simply wants to reserve the more premium features for its V-series handsets. With this said, although it did not confirm it, you can probably expect to see the upcoming V30 successor to offer an OLED panel.
Although this news might leave some disappointed, the new LCD being used on the G7 ThinQ should look quite impressive, as it offers a brightness of up to 1,000 nits. LG has not announced when the handset will be available and at what price but it should arrive to wireless carriers sometime in late spring.
