Jimmy Fallon is making a donation!
After speaking out earlier this week about the backlash he received for his light-hearted interview with the President of the United States, Donald Trump back in 2016 — in which Fallon playfully tousled President Trump’s hair — the host became the subject of one of Trump’s multiple angry tweets.
Trump tweeted on Sunday, “ [email protected] is now whimpering to all that he did the famous ‘hair show’ with me (where he seriously messed up my hair), & that he would have now done it differently because it is said to have ‘humanized’ me-he is taking heat.”
Seemingly referring Fallon’s previous thoughts on the TV segment, Trump added, “He called & said ‘monster ratings.’ Be a man Jimmy!”
The 43-year-old Fallon simply responded hours later, “In honor of the President’s tweet I’ll be making a donation to RAICES in his name.”
A Texas-based nonprofit agency, The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, offers free or low-cost legal aid to refugees and immigrants.
Fallon spoke out about the backlash he got for the interview earlier this week, which the host described as getting “out of control.”
The 41-year-old The Tonight Show host said during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, “I did not do it to normalize him or to say I believe in his political beliefs or any of that stuff.”
Before pointing out his show centres around entertaining and lighthearted interviews, he said, “I saw other comedians from other shows making fun of me on Twitter and I go, ‘Okay, now I’m just gonna get off.’”
He said, “I’m just trying to make a funny show.” He went on to say, “Of all the people in the world, I’m one of the good people — I mean, really. You don’t even know what you’re talking about if you say that I’m evil or whatever.”
He continued, “It was definitely a down time. And it’s tough for morale.” Adding that he “made a mistake” and that he “looking back, I would do it differently.”
