A plane with four people aboard crashed into the Atlantic off the coast of Long Island Saturday, according to multiple media reports.
One body was recovered, the US Coast Guard said. Three people are still missing.
The plane, a Piper PA-31 Navajo, went down about a mile offshore, near Indian Wells Beach, the FAA said.
East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Carlo confirmed the aircraft had lost contact with East Hampton Airport.
The Coast Guard, Air National Guard and East Hampton Town Police were searching for survivors.
Also involved in the rescue efforts were crew members on two commercial vessels that were in the area. One person aboard the fishing boat said they were navigating through a debris field that appeared to be wreckage from a small plane.
