Qualcomm launches new processors for mid-range smartphones, here’s what’s new

Qualcomm has launched three new processors for mid-range and budget smartphones namely the Snapdragon 632, Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429. The trio was launched on the first day of MWC Shanghai. Qualcomm has launched three new processors for mid-range and budget smartphones namely the Snapdragon 632, Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429. The trio was launched on the first day of MWC Shanghai. The chipmaker says that besides delivering more power and efficiency, these new processors also deliver a better battery life. They are also said to have ‘significant power enhancements, more efficient designs, artificial intelligence capabilities, an impressive camera, and extraordinary graphics, compared to previous generations,’ as mentioned by company’s product marketing manager, Geoff Gordon.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 The octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 is said to support a single camera with up to 24MP sensor and dual cameras with 13MP each. The Snapdragon 626 successor also incorporates Adreno 506 GPU that is claimed to render content up to 10% faster, specially on FHD+ resolution smartphones. It uses the company’s X9 LTE modem, supporting up to 300Mbps download speeds. As for efficiency, the processor is said to support over 10 hours of video streaming, 10+ hours of gaming and 8+ days of music playback.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 and 429
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 and 429 chipsets are made using 12nm FinFET process, making them slightly more efficient than their predecessors. The new chipsets are also claimed to boost the battery life of the smartphones. They are said to use up to 25% less power while delivering 25% higher performance.
Both the processors are integrated with Snapdragon X6 modem, which offers 150Mbps download speeds and supports dual SIM dual VoLTE voice and data connection. The Snapdragon 439 has an octa-core CPU and uses Adreno 505 GPU for rendering graphics. It also supports a single camera ISP of 21MP or dual cameras with 8MP each along with FHD+ screen resolution in smartphones.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 processor has a quad-core CPU and includes Adreno 504 GPU. It can support a 16MP single camera or dual cameras with 8MP each.
These three processors are said to be made available for commercial devices in the second half of this year.
