Xiaomi just unveiled two new affordable smartphones in China, the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. Powered by MediaTek’s new power-efficient Helio P22 and A22 chipsets – both are built on a 12nm architecture – these two phones are quite interesting.
Let’s start with the better equipped Redmi 6. It features a Helio P22 octa-core chipset paired with up to 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage – further expandable with a microSD card – a 3,000mAh battery, as well as a 5.45-inch 18:9 HD+ display. Aside from that, the Redmi 6 also has a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera system and a 5MP front-facing shooter.
As for the more affordable Redmi 6A, it is pretty similar to the Redmi 6. It has the same chassis, display, as well as battery capacity. However, as it’s a more affordable device, the 6A is equipped with a Helio A22 quad-core processor instead. It also has less RAM and internal storage at 2GB and 16GB respectively, though it does retain the microSD card slot.
In the camera department, the Redmi 6A comes with a single 13MP rear camera, along with a 5MP front-facing shooter.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A will be available in China from 15 June onwards. The Redmi 6 retails at 799 Chinese yuan (about RM495) and 999 yuan (approximately RM620) for the 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB variants respectively, while the Redmi 6A is priced at only 599 yuan (around RM375). For now, the Malaysian availability of these two devices are not known yet.
