Comedian Roseanne Barr was “disgusted” by “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn’s old tweets ranging from jokes about 9/11 to pedophilia.
According to the Daily Caller, a few of Gunn’s tweets read:
New poll. 9-11 jokes. Always in poor taste, or sometimes funny? Additional question: More or less offensive than Holocaust jokes?
Mary Matthews just told me a story about how a monkey jerked off to completion on a kid on the set of Max Keeble’s Big Move.
Laughter is the best medicine. That’s why I laugh at people with AIDS.
Barr infamously tweeted a comment comparing former adviser to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, to the film “Planet of the Apes,” resulting in the cancellation of her show.
Both Barr and Gunn were fired from their respective projects, but Barr found the defense of Gunn’s tweets to be hypocritical because many of the same people called for her demise:
I’m disgusted to read all of the support for James Gunn’s pedophile jokes-as the same people supported blacklisting me for a joke they didn’t even understand.

Barr points to the plethora of actors who came out in support of Gunn, including more than 250,000 others who signed a petition calling for Disney to take the director back:
I don’t fault anyone for whatever their @JamesGunn views are but I’ll say this: He said some stupid shit a decade ago, realized on his own it was stupid and made the decision to stop and not act that way anymore. He self corrected. Isn’t that what we should WANT people to do?

Hey Disney, you know who said worse things than James Gunn? Walt Disney.

What happened here is so much bigger then G3, @JamesGunn,myself, @Disney etc. This was a #cybernazi attack that succeeded. Unless we start to unite together against this crap, whether people are offended are not!…it’s going to get much worse. And it can happen to anyone https://t.co/AMZEd0tfqb

Barr’s assumption that there were people who had responded to her tweets with more aggression than they did to Gunn’s was correct. Many condemned her while defending Gunn:
Shame on you @therealroseanne and @ABCNetwork @RoseanneOnABC Not a single apology can get me to respect your despicable racist character. #EndRacism in #mainstream media NOW!!!

It’s been a challenging weekend I’m not gonna lie. I’m pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term. I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family. Always will.

Dear @ABCNetwork,
I will no longer watch any of your programming while you have @therealroseanne on the air.
You need to decide if making $ off her is worth it.

I support @JamesGunn .

Although the situations are quite different, there are still many who are siding with Barr in calling out the hypocrisy:
It is disgusting. Bloody hypocrites. Not intelligent enough to be witty. But dumb enough to defend a pedophile. I say we drop him off in Th Bronx with a sign around his neck. Forget about it! https://t.co/FbUE4K6dZs

As for now, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director is out for the third installment of the series. Barr’s show, on the other hand, will continue without her in a spinoff called “The Conners.”
