Microsoft reveals its line-up of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers for the month of August, headlined by Ubisoft’s popular fighting game For Honor.
With less than a week until the start of August, Microsoft has once again revealed its next month of free games planned for release as part of Games With Gold. August 2018’s Games With Gold delivers a solid line-up of major releases on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The headlining game of the month will undoubtedly be Ubisoft’s action fighting game For Honor, but racing game fans may dispute that due to Forza Horizon 2‘s inclusion. Either way, it’s an impressive month for Games With Gold.
While the Xbox One games for August are certainly appealing, the Xbox 360 games don’t disappoint either. Here’s Microsoft’s full line-up of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games included with August’s Games With Gold:
As always, the Games With Gold availability is on an alternating schedule. That means that while Forza Horizon 2 will be available for the entirety of August, For Honor‘s availability will start August 16 and last until mid-September. As for the Xbox 360 games, they’re each only available for half of a month total. Dead Space 3 will be available in the first half of August and Epic Mickey 2 will come available in the second half of the month.
Forza Horizon 2 will be a great option for Xbox gamers looking for a distraction until Forza Horizon 4 launches on Xbox One and PC in October. The open world racing game improves on virtually every aspect of the first Forza Horizon, expanding on multiplayer functionality and tripling the explorable area of the game thrice-fold. But as with any Forza title, Forza Horizon 2‘s main attractions are its impressive visuals and selection of over 200 drivable cars.
For those worried that they may be starting For Honor past its prime, Ubisoft is looking to calm such thoughts. When Xbox One players start For Honor in mid-August, they’ll be entering into the recently begun Season 7: Storm & Fury. The new season will have reset all competitive rankings, allowing all new players to prove themselves alongside veterans. Then, come October, Ubisoft has an even larger update planned with Marching Fire. For Honor‘s brightest days may be just beginning.
Finally, August’s Games With Gold on Xbox 360 are both worth paying attention to. Dead Space 3 is the most recent release in the well-received horror/shooter franchise. Isaac Clarke is back for another fight against the Necromorphs, this time with the option of a cooperative partner in John Carver. Alternatively, Epic Mickey 2 also has an important partnership – between Mickey and his lesser-known predecessor Oswald. Both Xbox 360 games are downloadable and playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.
