The POCOPHONE F1 is the first device to be released under Xiaomi’s new sub-brand POCO and has been leaked quite heavily, and now the latest leak shows off the retail box and images that confirm the design.
The idea of the sub-brand became apparent when Xiaomi added special dedicated media accounts dedicated to POCO and specifically the POCOPHONE. Jai Mani, the Lead Product Manager for Xiaomi India, announced two new Twitter handles by the name of IndiaPOCO and GlobalPOCOPHONE, showing Xiaomi’s intention of India as being a destination for the POCOPHONE F1. The sub-brand joins the other Xiaomi branches that include Mi and Redmi.
If the device was a secret then the company has done a terrible job of keeping it under wraps with the device recently listed for pre-order on a Belarusian online store. Furthermore, the device has made an appearance online in some locations during the FCC certification and Bluetooth SIG certification, but none of these sources was able to give a complete list of features.
From various leaks, the specifications of the Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 has been revealed in its entirety. The device will feature a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with 1080×2246 resolution and a pixel density of 416 pixels per inch. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor clocked at up to 2.8 GHz with an Adreno 630 GPU will power the smartphone. The device will also have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. Since the specs have been gleaned from leaked retail packaging, it could be that more SKU’s exist for the device but just haven’t leaked out yet, so it could be very possible that the device could come in other storage and RAM configuration options.
On the camera front, the POCOPHONE F1 is set to feature a dual camera array with a 12-megapixel lens paired with a 5-megapixel lens with an LED flash as well as a 20-megapixel shooter on the front for selfies and video calling. The device will also be capable of capturing 4K Ultra HD video and will have AI-powered features that will enable capabilities like portrait mode and intelligent scene recognition.
As far as connectivity goes, the smartphone will have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C, and 4G VoLTE. You’ll also get a large 4,000mAh battery that will power the POCOPHONE F1, which is great news for those wanting the device to last a full day of use. The battery will support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. The smartphone will ship with the Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out of the box, but given the recent release of the Android 9 Pie and that Xiaomi is already developing MIUI 10, the company could issue an OTA update for Android 9.0 shortly after the POCOPHONE F1’s release.
The latest leak of the POCOPHONE F1 shows the full retail packaging that gives a glimpse into how the device will look. The packaging comes in a yellow and black hue and what appears to be a USB Type-C charging cable.
The interface of the device shows that the POCOPHONE F1 will run Xiaomi’s custom MIUI ROM as previously suggested and the design shows curved edges, dual cameras, and a fingerprint sensor, which confirms most of what we already knew.
The Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 is expected to retail around Rs. 30,000, but there’s been no indication of an expected release date for the device, but certain suggestions pin the device in October.
