Ankeny police on Monday released the name of the man shot and killed by a police officer Saturday afternoon, as well as the name of the officer involved.
Christopher Leonard, 31, of Springfield, Missouri, was shot and killed by Ankeny Police officer Todd Webb Saturday near Kum & Go at 1910 S. W. White Birch Drive after drawing a gun on the officer, according to an Ankeny Police news release.
Police were called to the Hy-Vee gas station at 1710 S. W. Oralabor Road at about 4:33 p.m. for a report of a robbery. After officers arrived on scene, Webb located Leonard near the Kum & Go, where the release says Leonard drew a gun and pointed it at Webb.
Webb then shot Leonard, who died at the scene.
Webb is a 12-year veteran of the Ankeny Police Department and remains on administrative leave, as is standard after police shootings.
