Black Ops 4: New Blackout Battle Royale Details Revealed

In a new interview, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 design director David Vonderhaar reveals a variety of details about the game’s Blackout battle royale mode.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to launch in just one month, but before then, fans will have a chance to test out its highly anticipated Blackout battle royale mode. The Blackout beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 kicks off next week, but Treyarch has spilled the beans on various aspects of the mode a little early.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 design director David Vonderhaar recently spoke with Game Informer in an interview that included 195 rapid-fire questions. The full interview is embedded below, but we have collected what we believe to be the most interesting tidbits right here:
For the most part, it sounds like the Blackout battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be fairly standard battle royale fare, but with some major exceptions. For one, having distinct characters players choose from is quite the departure from battle royale norms, which usually have players customize their own character or just change their skin, like in Fortnite.
Secondly, the addition of zombies to the map should also shake things up quite a bit. There are some battle royale games that have dabbled with AI-controlled enemies, but none on the scale of Black Ops 4. It will be interesting to see how zombies are received by the community, and if Treyarch will adjust how they work in Blackout after next week’s beta.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on October 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
