Former NBA player Chris Dudley said he regularly drank with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh while the two were classmates at Yale University, although he “never, ever saw him blacked out” drunk.
Dudley, a former Oregon gubernatorial candidate, pushed back against allegations sexual misconduct along with heavy drinking leveled against Kavanaugh by three women in recent days, including one woman from his time at Yale.
“I went out with him all the time,” Dudley told the Washington Post . “He never blacked out. Never even close to blacked out. There was drinking, and there was alcohol. Brett drank, and I drank. Did he get inebriated sometimes? Yes. Did I? Yes. Just like every other college kid in America.”
Dudley and Kavanaugh, both 53, attended Yale as undergrads during the same span (1983-87).
“When he went out Friday nights, I was usually with him,” Dudley told Buzfeeed News and T . “I never, ever saw him blacked out, never…. Brett would drink, but he’d also be the guy who never missed a class. There’s a reason he was top of his class.”
Deborah Ramirez alleged in a story published by The New Yorker that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at dorm party while they were freshmen at Yale.

Kavanaugh is scheduled to appear separately from Christine Blasey Ford – the first of three women to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct – in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
“Over the past few days, other false and uncorroborated accusations have been aired,” Kavanaugh said in a statement ahead of his hearing. “There has been a frenzy to come up with something – anything, no matter how far-fetched or odious – that will block a vote on my nomination. These are last-minute smears, pure and simple.”
Kavanaugh remained at Yale to attend law school as Dudley began his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Dudley played 16 seasons in the NBA, a career that concluded with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2003.
