Fox News host Chris Wallace said Sunday that he “invited all 10 [Senate Judiciary] Committee Democrats to join” his political affairs program, but “for the second week, none of them accepted” invitations to discuss the panel’s handling of sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“We should note for the second week in a row we invited all 10 committee Democrats to join us, and for the second week, none of them accepted,” Wallace told his audience on “Fox News Sunday.”
“And with that, Sen. [Lindsey] Graham, welcome back to ‘Fox News Sunday.’ ”
“You must be mean,” Graham (R-S. C.) jokingly replied.
“Or they don’t want to talk…” Wallace noted.
Graham went to tell Wallace that he hasn’t heard enough evidence to “ruin Judge Kavanaugh’s life over” an allegation made by Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct for actions she says happened 36 years ago at a high school party. Kavanaugh staunchly denies the claim, adding he wasn’t even at the party in question.
Two Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee did appear on other Sunday morning programs, including Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) on CNN’s “State of the Union” and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on ABC’s “This Week.”
The ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif), has not granted any one-on-one interviews with any outlet since sharing news of a letter from Ford on Sept. 13 that she originally received back in July.
Also late Sunday, a spokesperson for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) accused Democrats of “withholding information” regarding new allegations against Kavanaugh that came to light in a New Yorker story by Ronan Farrow involving an alleged incident that occurred at a dormitory party while Kavanaugh was attending Yale.
“Yet again, Senate Democrats actively withheld information from the rest of the Committee only to drop information at politically opportune moments,” the statement said, echoing his original accusation that Democrats withheld the initial claim against Kavanaugh from Ford.
Kavanaugh also denies the new allegations.
