The box gives us an idea of what the 6T could look like, and it indeed suggests an R17 Pro-like design complete with a Waterdrop display and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
Last month, some reports suggested that OnePlus could launch the T model of the OnePlus 6 sometime in October. We also expect (based on how OnePlus typically designs its phones on Oppo’s flagship R-series) that the OnePlus 6T will come with a design language similar to the recently launched Oppo R17 Pro. While OnePlus is yet to start teasing its next flagship, we now have some leaked images of what seems to be the retail box of the upcoming OnePlus 6T. The box gives us an idea of what the 6T could look like, and it indeed suggests an R17 Pro-like design complete with a Waterdrop display and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
While the outer side of the retail box mentions the name as OnePlus 6T, the design of the phone is revealed on the inside. No, there’s no actual phone inside the box, but what we do see is an outline sketch of the OnePlus 6T that reveals a Waterdrop display that was first seen on the Oppo F9 and R17 phones last month. The notch is unique to this family of brands as it is much smaller and rounder than the typical iPhone X-like notch that we have been seeing this past year. The notch is shaped like a water drop, as the name suggests, allowing for an even bigger screen to body ratio. In a way, it is similar to the notch on the Essential Phone, only less intrusive. While the OnePlus 6 comes with an iPhone X-like notch and a 6.28-inch display, the Waterdrop notch could allow for a bigger 6.4-inch display, much like the Oppo R17 Pro.
Apart from the display, the outline also seems to confirm that the OnePlus 6T will bring an in-display fingerprint sensor, again similar to the Oppo R17. It will be interesting to see whether the sensor will be as fast as the physical fingerprint sensor that we have seen on past OnePlus phones. After all, the company is all about offering speed, a philosophy that is once again mentioned on the OnePlus 6T’s retail box, which reads “Unlock the Speed.”
Based on what we know so far, the OnePlus 6T is set to look quite different from the OnePlus 6, something fans may not be too happy out yet again, especially if they just bought the OnePlus 6. To recall, the OnePlus 6 also brought a pretty different design thanks to the notch and all-glass body compared to the OnePlus 5T before. It also seems that OnePlus could be bringing out the T model a lot faster than its typical half-yearly cycle, if it is indeed eyeing an October launch. The OnePlus 6 was launched around four months ago in May.
In terms of hardware, we expect that the OnePlus 6T will continue with the Snapdragon 845 chipset like its predecessor. This should be offered with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There may be some upgrades to the camera, but we have no details on that just yet. The 6T should ship with Android 9 Pie and we also expect Gorilla Glass 6 protection on the front and back. As for the pricing, a report last month suggests the phone could be priced around $550.
