When is Riverdale coming back? We explain how to watch Riverdale in the UK and US, round up rumours about what will happen in season 3, and share the latest trailers for the new series.
Riverdale fans have been eagerly awaiting its return since season two’s cliffhanger ending. If you’re among them, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s not long left until Archie and friends hit our TV screens for season three. Here’s everything we know so far about the next series of Riverdale and how to watch it.
The first episode of Riverdale season three is set to air in the US on The CW on 10 October 2018. Once the season finale has aired, you’ll be able to watch the whole season in the US on Netflix as all episodes will be added to the streaming service at once.
In the UK, you’ll be able to catch it on 11 October on Netflix from 8am, and expect a new episode there every week from then until the mid-season break. There are set to be 23 episodes in total.
Riverdale shows in the US on The CW, and then on Netflix the following morning. You can sign up to Netflix here.
You’ll find the first two seasons of Riverdale available to watch now on Netflix too, or you can buy them from Amazon .
Before you read on, it’s important to note that we’re not going to be able to avoid spoilers for season two in this section. If you’ve yet to watch it, what are you waiting for? If you’ve seen it right until the very end of the season two finale then you’re safe to continue.
The last episode of season two revealed that Jughead is alive, and now he’s the Serpent King after FP chose to retire. Cheryl is a Serpent now too, complete with a special red jacket that looks absolutely badass.
While that’s all great news, the question we’re all asking is: what’s going to happen to Archie? He’s been arrested for the murder of Cassidy Bullock, who was actually killed by André in the woods near Veronica’s parents’ lake house. It’s clear that Hiram is behind the arrest and we all know that Archie didn’t do it, but how is he going to get out of this one?
We already know that the first episode will see Archie in court, thanks to a tweet in June from the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre Sacasa.
It sounds like we’ll find out Archie’s fate in that very first episode, set on Labor Day weekend. Scenes from the episode were teased in a trailer from The CW (you need to watch right to the very end to see the new stuff).
We also know the names of the following three episodes:
We know that some of the supporting characters we love from the first two seasons are set to play bigger parts in season three, including Toni Topaz, Reggie, Cheryl, Kevin and Josie.
Roberto Aguirre Sacasa has said that season three will take on a new vibe. The first season was a murder mystery, the second a serial killer and the third is set to feel like an investigation of sorts. This month he told Entertainment Weekly that he loved True Detective: “We jokingly call it teen detectives meets True Detective, because we find Betty and Jughead investigating this really disturbing crime that seems to speak to the very twisted history of Riverdale.”
During the same interview he also revealed that we’ll be seeing more of the Farm we’ve heard so much about from Polly: “We’re going to meet the Farm’s leader, Edgar Evernever but, equally important, we’re going to meet his daughter, Evelyn Evernever, who is an Archie character that we’re sort of reinventing for this storyline.”
You can see the first of the Riverdale trailer above, which was followed more recently by the 30 second teaser shown in the Tweet below.
