Samsung today introduced a pair of lower cost mobile devices, the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy Tab A 10.5-inch.
Those are both mid-range devices, and priced accordingly.
“Both new devices bring the performance and capabilities consumers want at a more accessible price point. Consumers are increasingly looking for innovative features and high-quality hardware in mid-tier mobile devices. Samsung is delivering by expanding its lineup with excellent devices offered at an exceptional value,” Samsung says.
Starting with the Galaxy A6, the mid-range handset wields a 5.6-inch HD+ (1480×720) Super AMOLED display. It’s powered by Samsung’s own octa-core Exynos 7884 clocked at 1.6GHz, and 3GB of RAM. On the storage front, it has 32GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD card slot supporting up to 400GB of additional storage.
Samsung plopped a pair of 16-megapixel cameras on the Galaxy A6, one on the front for taking selfies (f/1.9 aperture) and the other on the rear (f/1.7 aperture), both accompanied by an LED flash.
The Galaxy A6 will be available starting September 14 for $359.99 (MSRP).
Moving on, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is, as its model name implies, a 10.5-inch tablet. It serves up a 1920×1200 resolution powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.8GHz. It also has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, plus a microSD memory card slot.
There are cameras on the front and back of the Galaxy A Tab 10.5 as well—a 5-megapixel shooter in the front and an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus on the rear. It also features quad speakers with Dolby Atmos.
“Galaxy Tab A 10.5 also lets you control your smart home devices through SmartThings, and set limits on your child’s screen time with Samsung Kids. The Samsung Kids service offers curated, high-quality, fun learning games, books, and videos for kids ages 3-12 years old,” Samsung says.
The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 will initially be available with Wi-Fi connectivity on September 14 for $329.99. Later this year, there will be a version with LTE connectivity at Sprint and Verizon, though Samsung didn’t say how much it will cost.
