A good portion of the phones released this year come with an unsightly notch on the display. The trend isn’t going anywhere and we’re just going to have to live with it. Thankfully, the Mi Mix series of phones have largely been notch-free and it looks like the Mi Mix 3 will continue that legacy. Today, we spotted the Mi Mix 3 on Weibo and not only does it have an impressive screen to body ratio, but also a manual slider camera. Check it out in the video below.
As we can see, the Mi Mix 3 follows similar design principles to the Oppo FindX and Vivo NEX. However, it does away with a motor-driven mechanism for the camera and instead relies on a manual slider which can be lifted to reveal the front-facing camera. A manual slider eliminates the need for a motor, which eliminates one moving part from the assembly, but also makes the phone prone to failure at that point. We’ll have to wait till we get a hands-on with the Mi Mix 3 before we jump to conclusions.
The Mi Mix 3 comes with a notch-free 6.4-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel. At this point, we don’t know the aspect ratio, so its difficult to ascertain the exact resolution. The primary camera is 12+12-megapixels and will come with all the AI-ready features that Xiaomi introduced with an earlier version of MIUI. The secondary camera is expected to be 20-megapixels and will come with portrait, beauty mode and the works.
Much like its predecessors, the Mi Mix 3 will come with Qualcomm’s best and latest Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 6/8GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage, depending on the variant. Unfortunately, the storage isn’t expandable. The battery is expected to be 4,000mAh and will support Quick Charge 4.0, significantly reducing charging times.
Other features include 802.11 b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC and a USB Type C port for charging and data transfer. And no, there isn’t a 3.5mm headphone jack on this one either. The device will very likely run Android Oreo out of the box customised with MIUI (we’d really like it if it was Android Pie, but such is life)
The base variant of the Mi Mix 3 bearing 64GB storage and 6GB RAM is expected to retail at Rs. 35,000 for the standard variant and 45,000 for the ceramic edition. The 6GB/128GB variant will be priced at roughly Rs. 38,000 for the Standard Edition and Rs. 48,000 for the Ceramic Edition. The 8GB/128GB model will cost Rs. 41,000 for the Standard Edition and Rs. 51,000 for the Ceramic Edition. Lastly, the 8GB/256GB variant will be available for Rs. 44,000) for the Standard Edition and Rs. 54,000) for the Ceramic Edition.
